The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) has failed to convince the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbhandhak Committee (PSGPC) to follow the amended Nanakshahi Calendar.

The PSGPC appears determined to observe the martyrdom day of Guru Arjan Dev, the fifth Sikh master of the Sikhs, according to original Nanakshahi Calendar (NC).

Recently, a DSGMC delegation went to Pakistan to persuade the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB), the parent body of the PSGPC, to accept the amended the Nankshahi Calendar, but the latter refused to entertain the request.

DSGMC president Avtar Singh criticised the ETPB and the PSGPC for holding onto their reservations on the issue.

According to sources, the PSGPC expressed their anger over not being taken into confidence before the SGPC went ahead and amended the original calender.

The PSGPC said that the DSGMC and the SGPC must first restore the original Nanakshahi Calendar, and then seek an opinion from the Sikh diaspora living across the world before going ahead with any kind of amendment.
