Out of the two terrorists who were killed in a fierce gunbattle in Pulwama district of South Kashmir on Thursday, one's wife had cried out to him to surrender as he was holed up in a house completely surrounded, however, her pleas fell on deaf ears as he continued to open fire on the troops and was ultimately eliminated.
The incident clearly indicates that the security forces tried their best to avoid neutralizing the terrorist despite being fired upon, leading them to call his family to help him see sense.
While the cordon was being placed, one terrorist was eliminated when he tried to flee, following which the second terrorist, Mohammad Safiq Shergujri took cover in a cluster of houses.
Upon realization that he is a local, in an attempt to avoid any further bloodshed and to bring the terrorist back to mainstream, security forces brought forth Shergujri's wife to the encounter site, to persuade him to surrender.
His wife Dilshada could be seen making repeated requests by making announcements on a loudhailer but to no avail, as the terrorist did not relent to her pleas and refused to surrender.
The woman was extended complete assistance and it was conveyed through her that no harm would be done if he surrenders, however, despite this humane approach, Shergujri began engaging with the security forces.
Left with no choice, the troops in a methodical and coordinated search, eliminated the terrorist.
Two weapons were recovered from the two slain terrorists and the house in which they were holed up was also brought down.
