The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday sent notices to Punjab, Chandigarh and Haryana administration, director of health department and other local bodies seeking a status report in the dengue menace.

The next date of hearing in this matter is on November 2.

These measures are taken in a bid to accentuate upon the rising menace of dengue and Chikungunya in Punjab and Haryana and to accelerate the health paraphernalia to check the virus in its early stage.

On October 20, the Health and Family Welfare Department issued a set of fresh guidelines to the Indian Medical Association, Punjab and all private practitioners to report any suspected or confirmed dengue cases to the Health Department immediately so that remedial measures could be taken without any delay.

Earlier in the month, the total count of dengue cases had reached to 258 in Chandigarh.

Following which hospitals in the city had cancelled the holidays for doctors to cater to the medical needs of the dengue patients coming for treatment from Chandigarh and Punjab.

The menace of dengue has emerged so much in a period of one month that the hospitals are flooded with patients on daily basis.
