PV Sindhu lone Indian survivor at China Open

Rio Olympics silver-medallist PV Sindhu emerged as the lone Indian survivor at the ongoing China Open Super Series tournament after she booked her place in the semi-finals of the women's singles event here on Friday.

The seventh-seed produced a rich vein of form to brush aside China's Bingjiao 22-20, 21-10 in the last-eight contest that lasted half-an hour.

Sindhu had to work a little harder to won the opening game, with her Chinese opponent making a comeback every time she fell behind.

However, the second game was comparatively easy for Sindhu as once she bagged the lead, she never looked back again.

The ace Indian shuttler will now take on the winner of Akane Yamaguchi of Japan and Ji Hyun Sung of Chinese Taipei for a place in the summit showdown.

In the men's singles clash, Ajay Jayaram suffered a major blow as he knocked out of the tournament after going down 15-21, 14-21 to second-seed Chen Long of China in their quarter-final clash.
