Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) chief selector Iqbal Qasim has warned the team against depending on individual performances in the ICC Champions Trophy, despite singling out captain Misbah-ul Haq as the team's mainstay for the tournament.
Stating that Pakistan does not have superstars like Inzamamul Haq and Wasim Akram in the current lot who have won matches on their own, Qasim said that although the team may be balanced but it has many youngsters who do not have sufficient experience for which there is a need of a combined effort, the Express Tribune reports.
According to Qasim, every batsman will have to contribute by chipping in with at least 30 to 35 runs, while every bowler must play his part by taking a couple of wickets, adding that the team has the potential to do well in the tournament if all players contribute.
Meanwhile, Qasim said that he is content with the team's bowling performance during the UK tour, adding that the youngsters in the pace attack did well in matches against Ireland.
Qasim also said that he is optimistic that the bowlers will improve their performances even more in the Champions Trophy, adding that besides the fast-bowlers, the team also has a formidable spin attack spearheaded by Saeed Ajmal.
