It is ironical for a party like the Congress, which imposed an unprecedented and unacceptable emergency on the nation in 1975, to speak about safeguarding democracy in India, said the Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday.
BJP leader Shrikant Sharma told ANI, "The Congress party imposed an emergency in the nation for their self interest, pride and out of frustration. So, we don't need a lecture on democracy from Rahul Gandhi."
Addressing CWC members here on Monday, the Congress vice president described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a power obsessed individual who was seeking to silence all those who disagree with him.
