The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday said that Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi is making statements against the saffron outfit and its ideologue Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) because he is not able to digest the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

BJP leader GVL Narsimha Rao said that the Gandhi scion's comments reek of dynastic arrogance, and are aimed at seeking media attention.

"Rahul Gandhi is unable to digest the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. His comments reek of dynastic arrogance. His understanding of politics and governance is pathetic. And on top of it, he engages into such commentary to gain only media attention. Such comments are lowering his prospects further," said Rao.

Another BJP leader S. Prakash slammed Gandhi for targeting RSS and said that the Congress leader should read the history of the RSS before making any comment against the organisation.

"Rahul Gandhi does not know about patriotism and the sacrifices made by the RSS. Rahul Gandhi needs to understand and read the history before he make reckless comments," said Prakash.

Gandhi on Thursday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi's party's ideological parent RSS follows "a divisive agenda" and wants to "change the Indian Constitution".

While addressing Rahul the 'Sanjhi Virasat Bachao' (save composite culture) event here, Rahul accused the Prime Minister Narendra Modi Government of imposing RSS ideology in every institution of the country.

Alleging that Prime Minister Modi sells lies to the public, Rahul said the Opposition must fight together to defeat the BJP.

While taking a jibe at Prime Minister Modi's Make in India initiative, Gandhi said, "Modi ji gave 'Make In India', but I mainly find things that are 'Made in China'. Truth is that Modi Ji's Make In India has failed."

Rahul Gandhi was joined by several other Opposition leaders for the programme.

Veteran Janata Dal (United) -JD (U)- leader Sharad Yadav organised the ' Sanjhi Virasat Bachao' event. .

Top leaders of the Congress, the Left, the Samajwadi Party, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and other parties opposed to the BJP attended the programme which is being seen as Yadav's show of strength against his party chief Nitish Kumar's decision to ally with the BJP.
