Rahul visited Amethi 70 times and spent 140 days: Priyanka to Smriti Irani

Responding to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Amethi, Smriti Irani's comment about Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi's visit to the constituency, Congress president Sonia Gandhi's daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday said Rahul had visited Amethi 70 times and had spent 140 days there.

"Rahul had visited 70 times and spent at least 140 days in Amethi," said Priyanka while addressing a public meeting here today.

She also said that those fighting against Rahul are not interested in the truth or in development.

"They are not bothered about you. They are here but it is not that they love you. They just want to fight against Rahul. They claim on TV that there has been no development in Amethi. That is all right, but do they know the reason behind all this?" she asked.

"Electricity poles were erected everywhere and that is the responsibility of the centre. But it is the state government which provides electricity. We made much efforts and even Soniaji talked to Mulayamji about it. He had even provided it but the opposition filed a petition in court against it. Same can be said about roads in Amethi," she added.

She said there are people who are trying to do things for the public but there are certain elements that are creating hurdles.

"They approach you and talk about development and also point out lapses in the work done. They haven't had a look at the work done here. This is because they are not interested in it. They just want to show that no work has been done in Amethi," she said.
