Raj Thackeray charting a different course than from Balasaheb, says Meem Afzal

Congress leader Meem Afzal on Sunday described Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray's decision to contest election as charting a completely different course than what used to be practiced by Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray.

"Balasaheb used to act as a patron and used to keep away from the seat of power. But the rivalry between his son and his nephew has given rise to such a thing. I believe the urge for power makes anyone to do anything. I think what he is doing is also not incorrect and I believe that all political parties should welcome it," Afzal said.

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Saturday made a major announcement by declaring his intention to contest in the Maharashtra Assembly elections scheduled to be held later this year.

He also said that if his party (MNS) wins the Assembly polls then he will go on to become the chief minister of the state.

It is a first in the history of sorts where someone from the Thackeray family is contesting elections.

According to media reports Maharashtra is slated to hold Assembly elections this October to elect a new 288 member Maharashtra Legislative Assembly.
