Union Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday launched a scathing attack on the Congress and accused it of engaging in divisive electioneering in Gujarat.

Addressing an election rally here, Singh said, "Congress has been doing politics based on caste and creed for all these years. Now, they are trying to divide Gujaratis on the basis of community."

The home minister further sympathised with three other backward castes (OBC) leaders - Hardik Patel, Alpesh Thakor and Jignesh Mevan - for joining hands with the Congress for the upcoming state assembly polls.

"My sympathies are with the three young men who have made an alliance with Congress," he said.

Singh also slammed Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi for terming Goods and Services Tax (GST) as 'Gabbar Singh Tax'.

"I want to ask the young man of Congress, if GST was 'Gabbar Singh Tax, then why did you support it in the Parliament," he questioned.

With the election dates inching closer, the political slugfest between Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is getting shriller by the day.

The two-phase Gujarat elections will take place on December 9 and 14 while the results will be declared on December 18.
