Rajnath Singh appeals for international cooperation in disaster risk management

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday chaired a round table conference on the topic 'International Cooperation in support of post-2015 Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)', where he appealed for the cooperation of the participatory countries in the management of calamities across the world.

The minister shared his experiences at the event via a series of tweets.

"Chaired a Round Table on 'International Cooperation in support of post-2015 Framework for DRR' in Sendai today"

"It was one of the most important round tables focusing on the issue of global cooperation for disaster risk reduction in post-2015 framework"

"There was participation from over 35 countries from Asia-Pacific, Africa, Americas, Europe, as well as 8 international organisations."

"The objective of the deliberations was on generating ideas to bring about better international cooperation is support of post-2015 Framework"

"I made an appeal to all countries to reaffirm their commitment to pursue effective disaster risk reduction through international cooperation"

"Also highlighted the importance of global partnership to build communities self-reliant in mitigating the impacts of disasters. #WCDRR"

A release by the Ministry of Home Affairs stated that the deliberations aimed at generating ideas to bring about better international cooperation in support of post-2015 Framework for DRR. There was agreement that there should be more focus on disaster risk reduction, and efforts should not be limited to post-disaster relief and reconstruction, and that development activities and paradigm should integrate disaster risk reduction strategies.

Rajnath Singh is currently in Japan to participate in the third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction.
