Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam on Wednesday said the Devendra Fadnavis-led Maharashtra Government must reverse its order of transferring former Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria to ensure that the probe in Sheena Bora murder case reaches a logical conclusion.

"The investigations in the Sheena Bora murder case will be badly affected. The way former Mumbai Police Commissioner, Rakesh Maria was transferred, it clearly indicates that transfer order was signed by the Devendra Fadnavis government owing to political pressure from corporate houses to stop the probe into the money laundering angle. Several corporate houses are involved in the misappropriation of funds of over 800 crore," Nirupam told ANI here.

"If DG Home-Guard will monitor this case then to whom will other Mumbai Police officers involved in the investigation will report? Rakesh Maria has already said that he will be able to file a chargesheet by September 30. So, if we want the probe to reach a logical conclusion then the entire decision of the government (transfer order) needs to be reversed," he added.

Maria was promoted to DG Home Guards by the Maharashtra Government on Tuesday. He was in the midst of monitoring investigations in the high profile Sheena Bora murder case.

Ahmed Javed has replaced Maria as the new Mumbai Police Commissioner.
