Manchester City produced a superior performance to outclass Sunderland 4-1 in the third round of the Capital One Cup at the Stadium of Light.

City exposed their opponent's defensive frailties to hold a commanding 4-0 lead inside 36 minutes, thanks to strikes from Sergio Aguero, Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling and an own goal, the Daily Express reported.

Although Sunderland displayed a much improved performance after the break and pulled one back through Ola Toivonen in the 83rd minute, it proved too much for the hosts to overcome their rivals.
