Rang de Basanti Dhabha: Rang de taste buds

The restaurant exudes a Punjabi atmosphere. It has won an award for the most creative concept restaurant of the year 2012 by the Indian Restaurant Award 2012 organised by Franchise India.

The ambience is great with a tractor inside the restaurant which makes you feel that one is sitting at a roadside Punjabi dhabha. Various interesting taglines have been placed on the restaurant's walls.

The cutlery is made of stainless steel and the furniture is made of wood and decorated with nice and comfortable cushions. Adding to the decor is the 'Bhayankar' bar, which serves some interesting cocktails and fresh juices.

Coming to the food, we wanted to go for something spicy in the non-vegetarian category and ordered Achari Chicken Tikka, as suggested by the cordial staff. I must say the dish wasn't disappointing at all. It was very well marinated and the chicken chunks were soft and supple. Absolutely well cooked and the tandoori flavor of the dish was eminent in every bite. A great dish to start with.

The next one toppled the tikka. We had Mutton Seekh Kebab, and I have to confess, it was one of the best I have ever had. The blend of spices was perfect and a treat for the tongue. The crispiness and softness of texture was fantastically balanced in the dish. Little on the spicier side, but just the way we wanted it.

Thereafter, we ordered for Kali Mirch Bhuna Ghost as the main course. The color of the dish spoke a lot about the taste, and all good things I must say. The gravy, with a subtle background of pepper, slight sweetness of onion and a predominant essence of garam masala, was made to die for. The mutton was cooked so well, that my mouth wanted to taste it just a few more moments before I gulped it. An amazing main course item and a must try I promise.

The vegetable options were also amazing. We tasted Paneer Tikka which was very well marinated and topped with masala-coated onions and lime juice together with green chutney tickled our taste buds.

Dal Makhni, Paneer Butter Masala accompanied with an assorted range of Indian breads such as Butter Naan, Garlic Roti and Tandoori Roti also formed part of the main course.

I must say that both the Dal Makhni and Paneer Butter Masala were awesome. The Paneer Butter Masala had a tinge of Methi Masala which really enhanced its flavor.

The texture of the food was impressive and the preparation was also quite good. One must try the Gulkand ice cream. The price is reasonable.

This restaurant is located in Delhi's famed Sarojini Market and worth a visit after you finish you're your shopping.
