Real Madrid has sacked manager Carlo Ancelotti after the Spanish giants had a disappointing 2014-15season without a major trophy.
Ancelotti had led the team to victory in the Spanish Cup before claiming the club's 10th European Cup last season.
Real Madrid, who were knocked out by Juventus in the Champions League semi-final, finished second in Spain's top fight, two points behind Barcelona.
Meanwhile, after winning La Liga, Barcelona has reached the Spanish Cup and Champions League finals.
Club president Florentino Perez said that it was not an easy decision, adding that a new manager would be appointed by the "next week", the BBC reported.
He insisted that Ancelotti didn't do anything wrong but the demands at Real Madrid were very high.
Ancelotti, who succeeded Jose Mourinho as Real boss in June 2013, leaves Madrid having failed to convert a record run of victories last year into silverware at the end of this season.
Napoli boss Rafael Benitez is the favourite to be Ancelotti's successor once the Italian season ends.
