Relatives of ex-British servicemen jailed in India urge David Cameron to help

The families of six former British servicemen, who have been jailed in India for illegal possession of weapons, are reportedly urging British Prime Minister David Cameron to help free them.

A 136,000 strong petition is being planned to be delivered at Downing Street by relatives of the jailed ex-servicemen, who want the government to act as a guarantor.

According to the BBC, the men had been working on a private US-owned ship providing anti-piracy protection when they were arrested in October over illegally possessing weapons.

Billy Irving, from Connel, Argyll; Nick Dunn, from Ashington, Northumberland; Ray Tindall from Chester; Paul Towers from Pocklington, Yorkshire; John Armstrong from Wigton, Cumbria, and Nicholas Simpson, from Catterick, North Yorkshire, were arrested on 12 October and have been jailed in an Indian prison since 24 October.

Their bail pleas were deferred by the authorities ever since their arrest.
