Australian cricketing great Richie Benaud will reportedly be forced to sit out the rest of the season following injuries which he sustained in a car accident in October.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Benaud, a long-time member of the Channel Nine commentary panel, broke his sternum in the crash and is recovering more slowly than expected.

Benaud was driving his 1963 Sunbeam Alpine in Sydney when he lost control and hit a parked car and then crashed into a small brick fence, the report added.
