Ace marksman Jitu Rai crashed out of the Rio Olympics after failing to qualify for the men's 50m Pistol event here at the Olympic Shooting centre on Wednesday.
The 2014 World Championships silver-medallist, who was in strong contention to hand India its first medal, finished with an overall score of 554/600 to end at the 12th spot.
Although Jitu started strongly posting 92, 95, 90, 94, 95 in his first five sets, the poor sixth round shot of 88 cost him the berth to the finals.
Prakash Nanjappa, the other shooter in fray, piled further misery on India as he also failed to make a cut on his Olympic debut.
After a poor start of 85 in the first series, he was playing catch up and could only manage to finish at 25th place with a total score of 547 in the end of the competition.
India, which has sent it's largest-ever contingent of 119 athletes in Rio Olympics, is yet to open their medal account in the ongoing Summer Games.
