Rolf Harris found guilty of indecent assaults

Rolf Harris has been found guilty of 12 counts of indecently assaulting four girls from 1960s to 1980s.

According to the BBC, the jury deliberated for approximately 38 hours before reaching their unanimous verdicts and found the "touchy feely sort of person", which Harris had claimed to be, guilty of 12 counts of indecent assault.

After the verdict was passed, the victims, who had contacted police after 84-year-old singer-songwriter's arrest during Scotland Yard's Operation Yewtree investigation set up in the wake of sexual abuse allegations against the late BBC Radio 1 DJ Jimmy Savile, was made public, admitted to feeling relieved.

Jenny Hopkins, deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for London also spoke about the seven-week trial and said that the victims in this case have suffered in silence for many years and added that he hopes that the verdict provides other victims with the courage and confidence to come forward.

Peter Watt, director of national services at the NSPCC also said that Harris' "reckless and brazen sexual offending", sometimes in public places, speaks volumes about just how untouchable he thought he was.
