Rolling Stone has issued a formal apology for its botched up article alleging a gang rape on the campus of the University of Virginia.
According to The Washington Times, Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring called Rolling Stone's apology on Friday for its article "deeply troubling," saying the magazine should do more to clear up the report's mistakes.
The Nov. 19 article, reported and written by Sabrina Rubin Erdely described the brutal rape of a woman named Jackie at the hands of seven men at a 2012 Phi Kappa Psi fraternity party during a pledge initiation ceremony.
The article also criticized the university for its failure to respond to the alleged attack.
Rolling Stone managing editor Will Dana issued a letter of apology to readers saying that the Nov. 19 article, which relied solely on the account a student identified as "Jackie," contained "discrepancies" and that the magazine's trust in her was misplaced.
