England mid-fielder Frank Lampard believes that teammate Wayne Rooney holds key to the team's success.
According to the BBC, Lampard said that Rooney is an exceptional player, and if the team is going to do well in this World Cup, players like Wayne will come to the fore because that is what they do.
He added that Rooney is one of the toughest players he has ever met, and insisted "If Wayne Rooney does not play in the number 10 position behind Daniel Sturridge in England's next World Cup game against Uruguay on Thursday, then he (Lampard) would not play him at all.", the report said.
Meanwhile, Hodgson's decision to choose Rooney over the young Liverpool winger Sterling through the middle against the Italians has led to a debate about whether the Manchester United striker is in danger of losing his place, the report added.
