Russian movie 'Leviathan' that has been shortlisted for Oscars in foreign movie category, has been honored for the Best Foreign Language Film of the Year at the 26th Palm Springs International Film Festival.
The movie made under the banner of Sony Pictures' which is about a man who battles a local corrupt mayor in a coastal town on the Barents Sea, was awarded best among the all nominations by the FIPRESCI jury members, , Deadline.com reported.
Andrey Zvyagintsev, director of 'Leviathan' said that they tried to portray a universal truth in their movie while staying close to its Russian roots, and it made him felt so touched that audiences in the US respond to this story and the spirit in which it was told.
Haluk Bilginer was also awarded Best Actor of the Year in a Foreign Language Film for 'Winter Sleep' and Anne Dorval was given the Best Actress of the Year in a Foreign Language Film award for the movie 'Mommy'.
