Typo, the start-up in row surrounding the 'BlackBerry inspired keyboard add-on for iPhone, ' has reportedly said that the claims made by the smartphone manufacturer were 'invalid.'
The company, backed by TV personality Ryan Seacrest, filed the latest statements few weeks after BlackBerry sued it for launching a QWERTY keyboard add-on accessory for iPhones that infringed on its patents filed in 1999.
However, Typo said that the claims were not enforceable because similar designs were in the market nearly 10 years before BlackBerry filed for a patent, Mashable reports.
The 99-dollar Typo keyboard for iPhone was launched last month, and functions as an add-on accessory for the device and turns the touchscreen keypad into one that resembles that of a BlackBerry device.
BlackBerry had claimed that the keyboard was a blatant infringement against its iconic keyboard, and demanded for a fair compensation for using their intellectual property and technological innovations.
The report added that Typo representatives have asked the judge to dismiss the claims and grant a permanent injunction so BlackBerry couldn't take legal actions against them.
