Ace shuttler Saina Nehwal regained the number one spot in the latest single's ranking released by Badminton World Federation (BWF) on Thursday.
The Olympic bronze medalist overthrew Li Xuerui of China, who is now at the second spot.
Nehwal secured the number one position for the first time last month. But she slipped from the desirable position subsequently.
She has won two titles this year -India Open Super series and India Grand Prix Gold, and also reached the final of the prestigious All England Open, which is a Super Series Premier event.
Nehwal, who has been seeded second for the upcoming Australian Open Super Series World tournament, will start her campaign against a yet to be decided qualifier in Sydney.
Meanwhile, Nehwal's compatriot and two-time World Championship bronze medalist P.V. Sindhu dropped a place to number.12.
