Bharatiya Janata Party leader Sakshi Maharaj on Tuesday denied all knowledge of being served a notice by his party.
"I have no knowledge of this notice. I have just gotten off the train at New Delhi. If and when I receive the notice, I will give my defence to the party," Sakshi Maharaj told the media.
"If they [the BJP] are so inclined, they will take action against me. Why are you so worried?" he added.
The controversial BJP leader also seemed to imply that his party's dirty laundry needn't be hung out in public.
"This is a matter of the party. It has nothing to do with the media," stated.
Earlier, the BJP confirmed that it has issued a showcause notice to Sakshi Maharaj in response to his recent controversial comments.
The party has reportedly given him ten days to reply to the notice.
The action against Sakshi Maharaj comes days after his latest comment - that Hindu woman should "give birth to four children to protect the Hindu religion" - created a storm, with political opponents demanding an explanation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Apart from Sakhsi Maharaj, the other two lawmakers in the dock are union minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti and BJP lawmaker Yogi Adityanath.
