The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has revealed that it would not extend Thilan Samaraweera's contract as the country's cricket team batting consultant.
The former Sri Lankan cricketer, who was appointed as Bangladesh's batting consultant in September last year, was given an extension till the Champions Trophy this year. However, the board has now decided to part ways with him.
"We had a contract with him till the Champions Trophy, so now we have parted ways," ESPNcricinfo quoted the board's chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury as saying.
The BCB has already been seeking a new batting consultant, with former Australian first-class cricketer and coach Mark O'Neill being the front-runner.
Meanwhile, the board would also look for a new physio if the incumbent Thihan Chandramohan, who met with an accident earlier this month, failed to return back to duty soon.
Reflecting on the same, Chowdhury revealed that Chandramohan is in hospital at the moment and that the board would wait for the appropriate time for him to return.
"He is in hospital so we will wait for the appropriate time for him to join. We will have to look for a new physio only when he informs us whether he is unable to join the team," he concluded.
