West Indies captain Darren Sammy has said that he believes divine intervention may have been partially responsible for Sri Lanka's World Twenty20 semi-final victory on Thursday.
Chasing 161 for victory, holders West Indies were 80 for four in the 14th over when a hailstorm lashed the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, following which Sri Lanka was eventually declared the winners by 27 runs on the Duckworth-Lewis method.
According to The Dawn, Sammy said that he felt Sri Lankan batsmen Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara, who are both playing in their final T20 tournament, may be destined to achieve World Cup glory at last as God wants them both to leave on a high.
Stating that God normally answers all of their (West Indies) prayers, Sammy said that he feels God has put His hand up in this match, giving both Jayawardene and Sangakkara a chance to try and win a World Cup.
