Pakistani fast bowling legend Sarfraz Nawaz has backed the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) decision to stop pace bowlers Umar Gul and Sohail Tanvir from playing county cricket this summer in order to participae in the training camp.
The retired fast bowler, who began his Test career in 1969 with the series against England in Pakistan and in a career which spanned 15 years, is recognized as the father of reverse swing which was to revolutionize the art of fast bowling in years to come.
According to www.pakpassion.net, Nawaz said that he fully supported the PCB's stance to stop Gul and Tanvir from playing county cricket in order to participate in the summer training camp at Pakistan as he believes both of them are not 100 percent fit.
Nawaz said that Tanvir is having some problem with his legs while Gul, who has returned from injury, is collapsing on his follow through as the strength in his knee is just not there yet, adding that as the duo are not match-fit yet, the PCB has every right to summon them to the camp and find out what is going on regarding their levels of fitness.
Nawaz also said that Gul should not stick to playing only Twenty20 cricket as he feels the bowler has passed his best in the fifty over format and does not have the stamina or the fitness for Test cricket.
