The Supreme Court on Monday issued a notice to the Department of Income Tax to explain the necessity of imposing an additional 20 percent tax on hotel room tariffs as rent.
The apex court granted an interim stay on the IT department's move to impose the additional tax on plea made by the Hotel Association of India.
