The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Central Government to file a detailed reply within two weeks in connection with the status of pending appointment and transfer of judges.
The apex court was hearing various petitions, including a plea filed by Lieutenant Colonel Anil Kabotra, in connection with appointment of judges in various High Courts and apex court.
The apex court has time and again pulled up the Centre in this case.
As of now, Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi has submitted that out of 77 files sent to the government, 34 were cleared and remaining have been sent back to the Supreme Court Collegium for re-consideration.
The top court subsequently informed Rohatgi that the 43 names that it had selected for elevation in the judicial hierarchy stands.
