A joint operation by the army and the state police has resulted in the arrest of eight members of the banned terrorist organisation National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Songbijit faction) in the Kokrajhar and Sonitpur districts of Assam.

According to reports, two of the arrested militants were directly involved in the December 23 massacre of villagers in the Kokrajhar district.

The security forces also recovered four pistols, three AK series rifles, one HK rifle, eight grenades and over 300 rounds of ammunition from an arms dump in the forest under Kachugaon police station.

In December, NDFB(S) militants had opened fire on civilians in the Sonitpur, Kokrajhar and Chirang districts of Assam, killing 81 people.
