Renowned media professional Prof. K.M. Shrivastava who was also the senior-most Professor at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), New Delhi passed away at the age of 63, on Friday night at the Nizamuddin Railway station here.
The Indian Institute of Mass Communication held a condolence event on Saturday. Sunil Arora, Secretary of Information and Broadcasting ministry; Rahul Jalali, renowned journalist and President of the Press Club of India; K G Suresh, Senior Consulting Editor with Doordarshan News were among the many who attended the event alongwith the staff of IIMC and his students.
An author of various books on journalism, Prof. Shrivastava suffered a heart attack on the platform while waiting for his train to Bhopal.
His contribution to the national mass communication institute has been massive. He held various media courses for the Indian Army and the Territorial Army in IIMC. Recently, he also started a journalism course for Urdu language at the institute.
He worked and contributed to all types of media organisations and academic institutions in different parts of the world.
He started working as a journalist in 1978 with the hindi news agency Hindustan Samachar. He was the plenary speaker at the International Association of Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) Conference in Glasgow on the subject of Constraints in Communication. He was also an IAMCR delegate to the UN World Summit on Information Society.
