The market has ended marginally lower with the Sensex down 49.15 points trading at 25819.34.

The Nifty slipped 7.30 points at 7849.25.

GAIL, Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto, Dr Reddy's Labs and Lupin were top gainers while Hindalco, Vedanta, Tata Steel, ITC and Sun Pharma were losers in the Sensex.

The last hour also witnessed important announcements from Finance Minister Arun Jaitley regarding India selling shares in some state-run companies when market conditions improve.

He said that India has raised just about USD 2 billion, or less than 20 percent of its divestment target, so far this year. Steps will be taken by the government and the central bank to improve asset quality of state-run banks in a reasonable time. Indian banks have been burdened with their highest bad loan ratio in a decade.
