World number one Serena Williams extended her tally this season to 24-0 as she overcame her Spanish opponent Carla Suarez Navarro to progress to the Madrid Open semifinal on Thursday.
The 19-time Grand Slam champion claimed a comfortable 6-1, 6-3 win over Navarro and will next face Petra Kvitova of Czech, who trounced Romania's Irina-Camelia Begu 7-5, 6-3.
Meanwhile, Maria Sharapova battled past Caroline Wozniacki to claim a 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 win in her quarterfinal tie in the Spanish capital, the BBC reported.
Sharapova will next meet compatriot Svetlana Kuznetsova, who recovered from a set down to beat Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic 5-7, 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-3).
