Sex workers have been forced to hold down prices in a bid to attract new customers.

Massage parlours, streetwalkers and callgirls have all cut rates as the credit crunch bites, the Sun reported.

According to The Economist, even upmarket escorts are charging less and the only part of the industry where prices have held up involves kinky bondage.

Edinburgh escort Vivienne blamed the high cost of living for a fall in punters.

Meanwhile, Debbie, a "mature" prostitute, told the publication that she now does just two or three jobs a day instead of the eight or nine she used to as the trade had slowed since 2012.

George McCoy, who runs a website rating over 5,000 sex venues, said that the number of men logging on was down a third.

He blamed rising rents and spiralling energy bills for his declining buisness.

The publication reported that some prostitutes have turned to web or phone sex, while others have taken jobs as cleaners to make ends meet.
