Janata Dal (United) chief Sharad Yadav on Friday lashed out at senior Congress leader Janardan Dwivedi over his suggestion that politicians should not remain in active posts beyond an age, saying the people coming forward with such debates want to eliminate some people.

"Politics is not taught in any college or university. The people learn it after working among the people. They are not government officials. So, these types of debates are of no use," Yadav told ANI here.

"The people, who are coming up with such suggestions, are selfish and want to eliminate some people. They should directly tell whom they do not require," he added.

Earlier on Thursday, Dwivedi said a generation change is necessary in politics.

"I believe that even in politics people should not remain in an active post beyond a certain age," Dwivedi said.

"My opinion, at least about my party, is that active posts should be occupied by people who are younger and have more physical stamina," he added.

The senior Congress leader's comment came just days after the BJP dropped former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and party veterans Lal Krishna Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi from its Parliamentary Board.
