Sharif's Special Assistant apprises US Deputy secy of LoC situation

Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM), Syed Tariq Fatemi met with the United States Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Friday, where he apprised the latter about the situation along the Working Boundary with India.

The Special Assistant is in Washington on the first high level visit from Pakistan after Donald Trump won the US presidential election.

"The regional situation, including the escalation across the Line of Control and the Working Boundary were also discussed during the meeting. The SAPM briefed the Deputy Secretary," said a statement from the Pakistan Foreign Office.

Deputy Secretary Blinken reiterated the U.S. position on the need for reducing tension in South Asia and promoting closer cooperation and dialogue between the two largest countries of the region.

The special envoy was accompanied by Ambassador Jalil Abbas Jilani.

During the meeting, the SAPM also expressed hope that after the completion of ongoing transition process, the two sides would resume their regular engagement on the bilateral track.

"It was agreed that Pakistan-US relationship was important to regional as well as global peace and security and should continue to be strengthened under the next administration," said the statement.
