Shazia Ilmi pays tribute to Meena Kumari at 3rd DPF

New Delhi, Dec 21 (ANI): Veteran actress Meena Kumari has always been known for her acting skills but at the finale of the third edition of Delhi Poetry Festival, BJP leader Shazia Ilmi emphasised on the poetic abilities of the actress which has got overshadowed by her cinematic brilliance.

"We want to revive Meena Kumari's poetry. Meena was known for being a brilliant actress but nobody knows that she was a splendid poet as well. Her poems have a lot of pain, depth and are quite philosophical. I have recited four nazms by her and am dressed like her as a part of the tribute to her," Shazia told ANI.

Shazia recited four nazms written by Meena Kumari, whose real name was Mahjabeen Bano.

What drew appreciation from the audience was also a kathak performance on famous numbers of Meena Kumari.

Delhi Poetry Festival which began on December 18 concluded on December 20 with conversations about language and culture with Javed Akhtar and Prasoon Joshi.
