Sheila Dixit inaugurates two schools, promises food to poor citizens

The Chief Minister of Delhi, Sheila Dikshit, announced here today that the State Government would implement the Right to Food Scheme in the city on August 20.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Government Boys Sr. Sec. School at Shastri Nagar and Government Girls' Sr. Sec. School at Inder Lok, the Chief Minister appreciated the initiative of Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi in giving shape to the food security scheme.

She further said that this food security scheme would benefit all vulnerable sections and urged the people to avail this scheme.

"The eligible families would start getting benefit of the scheme with effect from 1st September, 2013 and they would be provided wheat at Rs.2 per kg, rice at Rs.3 per kg and coarse wheat at Rs.1 per kg. This scheme would be providing double benefit; firstly it would eliminate hunger and secondly it would go a long way in overcoming poverty," she said.

Union Communication and IT Minister Kapil Sibal and Delhi Education Minister Prof. Kiran Walia were also present at the occasion along with senior officials of the Education Department.

Kapil Sibal also expressed his concern over the deteriorating quality of municipal schools and said that it needed improvement at the earliest.
