The season 4 of 'Sherlock' series, featuring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, might be its last as creator Steven Moffat hinted that the leads are much in demand.

"I don't know how long we can keep it going, I'm personally willing, but I'm hardly the main draw. I would be moderately surprised if this was the last time we ever made this show. But it absolutely could be," said the 54-year-old writer.

He also stated that 'Sherlock' season 4 might very well mark the end of the series, reports stuff.co.nz

Moffat said that if both Cumberbatch and Martin decided to leave after the next season, then that would mean the end of the show.

Meanwhile, reports claimed that the season 4 of the drama series will consist of three episodes instead of the regular four.

The creator of the show also hinted that the upcoming season will feature terror and tragedy in the lives of Sherlock Holmes and Dr John Watson.
