Shiv Sena seems 'desperate' to join hands with BJP: NCP

The BJP announced that it is willing to form a govt in Maharashtra in alliance with the Shiv Sena

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Majid Memon on Monday said the Shiv Sena is desperately trying to join hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for government formation in Maharashtra.

"The Shiv Sena is desperately trying to join hands with the BJP, but the party's top brass is not in the mood to forget what Shiv Sena has done," said Memon.

"We do not want elections to be held again after six months. In the best interest of democracy, we think we would be doing justice to the system by extending external support to the BJP," he added.

According to an editorial in Shiv Sena mouthpiece Saamna, the party is ready to support any leader chosen by the BJP, as the next Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

On Sunday, the BJP had announced that the party is willing to form a government in Maharashtra in alliance with the Shiv Sena.

The BJP and Shiv Sena broke their 25-year old alliance ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly polls over seats sharing.

The BJP has emerged as the single-largest party in Maharashtra winning 122 of the 288 seats. The Shiv Sena finished second with 63 seats. The NCP has complicated the matters by offering external support to the BJP for government formation in the state.
