New Zealand cricketer Mark Craig, who suffered from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, has reportedly received a shock call-up to the New Zealand Test team to tour West Indies in June.

The Otago Volts offspinner, who spent 11 months mainly sitting on the couch or lying in bed at his family home in Auckland and feeling as if he was going to pass out at any moment, did not even expect playing cricket at any level at that point a few years back.

According to Stuff.co.nz, Craig, who played six games for the Volts in 2009, experienced worrying signs at the end of the campaign, saying that he was so tired that he could not even sleep, although in February 2011 he had progressed to the point he was able to make the first of his 22 first-class appearances.

Craig, who was told by New Zealand Cricket selector Bruce Edgar that he had been selected in the Test squad to play the West Indies in June, admitted that although he has held international aspirations but he never expected it would be as soon as the West Indies tour in June.

Stating that the call-up was a bit of shock for him, Craig however, said that it brought a lot of joy and happiness to him as just being able to daily activities had become a struggle for him at one point.
