Former Australian coach Mickey Arthur has claimed that he was the 'meat in the sandwich' between Michael Clarke and Shane Watson's feud and that Clarke described Watson as a 'cancer', adding that he also suffered racism because of his South African background.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Arthur has revealed this in a statement of claim lodged in a Melbourne court, as part of a 4 million dollar claim against Cricket Australia.

The report said that the development sent shockwaves through the Australian camp on the eve of the second Test at Lord's, while Arthur has reportedly detailed some of the dressing room acrimony, which has marred the national team's on-field performances this year.

Arthur has claimed that he was drawn into the feud between the two players, and Watson later stepped down from his role of vice-captain.
