Sidhu keen to serve Punjab, has quit BJP, confirms Navjot Kaur

Navjot Kaur said Sidhu will make his stand clear on joining AAP very soon

Confirming Navjot Singh Sidhu's resignation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), his wife Navjot Kaur on Tuesday said that he was not ready for any other option other than to serve Punjab.

She, however, also clarified that she hasn't resigned from the BJP.

"He has resigned from the Rajya Sabha. It means the same that he has resigned from the BJP. I haven't resigned from the party. It was his decision. His vision and mentality is very clear that he wants to serve Punjab. He was not ready for any other option other than Punjab. The party was very clear that they want to work with Akali Dal, so that was the only choice left for him that he wants to serve Punjab," she said.

Responding to a poser on whether Sidhu will now join the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Navjot said that he would make his stand clear in this regard very soon before the media.

"He has to decide on this. My take on any party is that the people of Punjab want a clear, neat and good governance. Whichever party is ready to give that governance. It just depends on the people, it doesn't depend on the leaders. So, let the people decide," she added.

On being asked whether Sidhu quit the BJP as there was a road rage case against him, Navjot said that the Supreme Court had given its verdict on this matter, adding there was no pressure on him.

"It was not a criminal case. It was a road rage case. There were 400 evidences stating that Navjot didn't even touch that man. That case was taken up by the Congress government. He had quit as the Member of the Parliament and he returned only after the Supreme Court's order. So, there was no pressure of that case," she said.

Navjot further said that Sidhu always wanted that the BJP top brass impose their trust on him, adding that he wanted to serve Punjab.

"If the BJP and SAD have difference in opinion and their party workers do not bond well then they must part ways and work separately. They must contemplate on issues they do not agree with each other. However, they have given a clear message that they would contest together," she added.

According to reports, Sidhu, who resigned from the Rajya Sabha, might join the AAP in Punjab.

The former cricketer, who was thrice the Lok Sabha member from the BJP, was asked to step away from contesting the polls in Amritsar during the 2014 general election to make way for fellow member Arun Jaitley.
