Sinead O'Connor has claimed that people who admit that they are suffering from a mental illness "get treated like dirt", which often keeps them from seeking help.
The Irish singer-songwriter opened up about public perceptions and said that women in particular are treated terribly if they suffer from mental illness, the Mirror reported.
According to Sky News, O'Connor, who had a feud with Miley Cyrus last year, added that female celebrities suffering mental illness or suffering from depression "get lynched in the street, they get mocked and buffooned".
However, she praised the compassion shown towards the late Robin Williams.
