Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena has given the assurance to look into the matter of the Tamil prisoners who are on a hunger strike at Colombo's main prison demanding release.
According to LankaPage, Sirisena has asked the Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Law and Order Minister Thilak Marapana to meet the Attorney General and discuss the issue.
Sirisena will make the decision after perusing the report submitted after the meeting.
Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, earlier said that no political prisoners were being held and the government had to take a decision on the issue.
There are 225 LTTE suspects held in prisons currently, many of whom are awaiting court action, he added.
