The Odisha government on Wednesday declared that the case of Kunduli gangrape and suicide will be handed over to a Special investigation team (SIT).
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said that "This was an extremely tragic incident. In addition to transferring the case for investigation to the Crime Branch, the state govt has also instituted an independent judicial inquiry with a sitting judge nominated by High Court".
Earlier, the Chief Minister had said that no stones will be left unturned to ensure a thorough investigation into the matter.
A class IX girl had committed suicide on January 22 after an alleged gangrape in October last year. This was followed by a massive outrage among the natives of the village.
