Over 1 billion smartphones were reportedly shipped worldwide in 2013, setting a new record for the most shipped cellphones in a period of one year.
According to International Data Corporation's report, 1,004.2 million smartphones were shipped throughout the year, implying an increase of 38.4 percent from the 725.3 million units shipped in 2012.
IDC program director Ryan Reith said that Markets like China and India are quickly moving toward a point where sub-$150 smartphones are the majority of shipments, bringing a solid computing experience to the hands of many, the Verge reported.
Reith added that large screen and low cost were the factors that boosted the shipment of smartphones.
Meanwhile, Samsung reported the most number of smartphone shipment, followed by Apple.
