However, as the finale draws closer, the men's side will see tough battles for survival in the semi finals, which is due to take place on Friday.

Keeping Britain's hopes still alive in the tournament, Murray has sailed past Spain's Fernando Verdasco at the Centre Court on Wednesday in the quarter-finals with a five-set win to reach the semi-finals.

The Scot will battle 24th seed Jerzy Janowic, who beat his compatriot Lukasz Kubot on Court One in the quarter-finals, in his fifth semi-final in a row.

Murray produced an uncertain performance in the face of some big serving and heavy hitting from the left-handed Verdasco, whose, despite making as many errors as winners, kept the Scot on the defensive with his favoured forehand.

Meanwhile, World No.1 Novak Djokovic reached his 13th consecutive Grand Slam semi-final after defeating Czech seventh seed Tomas Berdych 7-6 (7/5), 6-4, 6-3 in the quarter-finals on Wednesday.

The 2011 champion is set to face Argentine eight seed Juan Martin del Potro, who has defeated Spanish fourth seed David Ferrer 6-2, 6-4, 7-6 (7/5) on Wednesday to also make a bid for the final.

The Serb's win over Berdych was his 14th in 16 career meetings with the Czech national, who had ironically beaten Djokovic in the semi-finals in 2010 when he finished runner-up to Nadal.
