'Disgusted' Compton slams selectors for not giving him 'fair crack at Ashes whip'

Axed England opener Nick Compton has slammed selectors and said that he was not given a 'fair crack at the Ashes whip'.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Compton was dropped from the England side to face Essex this week in favour of upcoming star Joe Root and it appears that is how it will stay when the first Test team is announced for Trent Bridge.

Although the South African-born right hander has failed in his past six Test innings, he had scored back-to-back hundreds against New Zealand in March, for which he expressed his disgust in his axing, saying that he does not feel that he had been given a fair chance.

Stating that he felt like he performed well enough in New Zealand with two back-to-back centuries, Compton further said that he does not really know where things stand at the moment, adding that he should have given another chance as he had just only a single bad Test match.

However, the disappointed Compton insisted that he will keep on fighting as he regards himself as a fighter, adding that he has had to battle for his position from time to time.

Meanwhile, Compton said that not too much could be read into where the Australian fast bowlers were at because of the flatness of the wickets, although he added that Australian quick Jackson Bird, scoring 4-38 on Wednesday, had been the pick and had managed to make the ball reverse.

Stating that he felt that Bird bowled well with the new ball, Compton said that although there was not a lot of swing, Bird was able to angle the ball sharply at times to right handers, adding that even though it was hard work, he did not get too many wrong.

If called upon, Compton has had the advantage of seeing all of Australia's fast bowlers, given that he had got through the tough stuff from James Pattinson, Mitchell Starc, James Faulkner and Peter Siddle in Taunton and then faced up to Ryan Harris and Bird in Worcester, the report added.

According to the report, since receiving the bad news, Compton has responded positively in two tour matches against Australia, scoring 79 in his guest stint for Worcestershire on Wednesday to go with the 81 he scored for his county side Somerset last week.
